Italy: Our Way Part 2
There we were in the middle of Venice, Italy at 11pm at night. Lost. Completely and thoroughly lost in a foreign city. It was my nightmare realized in this beautiful picturesque locale.
As usual during my 20s, I was on some adventure with one of my girls and this time we went international again! Enjoying the sights and sounds of Rome, Florence, Pisa, and Venice all in the course of a week or so. Aggressive and highly entertaining during our days leading up to Venice. Wineries, leaning towers, the real deal on the euro change for small businesses, and food! Delicious calamari in a cup (Venice), slices of pizza that made the American versions look store bought (Antico Forno), so much pasta Ristorante Belcore I developed a mild obsession for a few weeks after, and grappa…oh I’m getting off topic.
So, lost in the streets of Venice with the only point of reference the Rialto bridge (view from bridge pictured above). We even had Google as a GPS walking map since I paid for international service on my new GSM enabled phone. It was almost like we took a wrong turn at Albuquerque cartoonish moment. After seeing the same building twice I got frustrated, but thank goodness for calm friends. We trusted the GPS even though it took us around the long way! Finally saw the Teatro and we were almost back at the hotel! Dark alleys and closed shops gives one a new perspective on the well lit streets in the U.S.
We laugh about it now, but at the time, we were hungry, tired, and unsure of what the safety was in these streets!
Yet, I would do it all over again! Some places are worth getting lost and found in! Venice, Italy is definitely on that list. A few pics below
